Tips For Troubleshooting Wi-Fi Calling
Wi-Fi calling is a feature that allows you to make calls over your home internet connection instead of relying on a weak cellular signal. However, if you are experiencing dropped calls, poor audio quality, or difficulty making calls, you might wonder if your internet connection is to blame.
If you notice WiFi calling isn’t working, a quick fix is to reset the WiFi calling feature on your device. Simply turn it off, wait a few seconds, and turn it back on. You may also need to re-register WiFi calling to get it working properly on the new network. See more troubleshooting information below.
Good news: In almost all cases, your internet connection is not the problem! Wi-Fi calling depends on several factors, and a few quick troubleshooting steps can often resolve any issues. One of the following solutions will likely fix most Wi-Fi calling issues.
Common Wi-Fi Calling Issues & Solutions
1. Enable Wi-Fi Calling on Your Phone
Before troubleshooting further, make sure Wi-Fi calling is turned on:
iPhone: Go to Settings > Cellular > Wi-Fi Calling and toggle it on.
Android: Go to Settings > Network & Internet > Mobile Network > Advanced > Wi-Fi Calling and enable it.
2. Restart Your Phone
A simple restart can resolve many connectivity issues. Try turning your phone off and back on, or switch to Airplane Mode for a few seconds before turning it back off.
3. Stay Close to Your Wi-Fi Router
Wi-Fi signals weaken with distance and obstructions like walls, mirrors, and appliances. Plus, cell phones don’t have external antennas, so their Wi-Fi reception is not as strong as other devices. If calls drop, try moving closer to your router. If you need better coverage, we offer Whole Home Wi-Fi solutions—give us a call to learn more!
4. Adjust Your Phone’s Network Settings
Phones sometimes struggle to switch between Wi-Fi and cellular networks. To avoid interruptions, set your phone to Wi-Fi Preferred mode in the Wi-Fi calling settings to ensure it stays connected or turn Airplane mode on and Wifi on. That will prevent phone trying the cell connection.
5. Update Your Phone’s Software
Outdated software can cause connectivity problems. Check for system updates and carrier settings updates to keep your phone running smoothly.
6. Reset Your Phone’s Network Connection
Note: You will need to re-enter your Wi-Fi password to connect the device to the internet !!
iPhone: Go to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset > Reset Network Settings

XBOX, PlayStation, Gaming PC
To get the best gaming experience, aim for a download speed of at least 3-5 Mbps, upload speed of 1 Mbps, and a ping (latency) under 50ms. For smoother updates and more stable gameplay, a download speed of 10+ Mbps is a good idea. Wired Ethernet connections are a great choice to keep latency consistent.
Upload Speed: Aim for at least 0.5–1 Mbps, but 5–10 Mbps is better for streaming or sharing.
Latency (Ping): Ideally, keep it under 50ms for competitive play. 50-100ms is okay, but anything over 150ms might cause noticeable lag.
Packet Loss: Should be close to 0% for the best performance.
Tips for Better Gaming Performance
Use Ethernet: A wired connection gives you the lowest and most stable latency.
5 GHz Wi-Fi: If you need to use Wi-Fi, switch to the 5 GHz band to cut down on interference.
Reduce Congestion: Try to limit other devices streaming or downloading while you’re playing.
Check NAT Type: Make sure your console is set to Open NAT type for the best performance.
Standard and High Definition TV streaming
When it comes to streaming, Netflix suggests these download speeds:
- 3.0 Megabits per Second for SD (Standard Definition TV quality)
- 5.0 Megabits per Second for HD (High Definition TV quality)
Hulu, Amazon Stick, and Google Chromecast also use similar speeds.
4K / UHD Streaming
Right now, BaldyConnect doesn’t support UHD/4K streaming. We think the advantages aren’t really worth it. To keep your service running smoothly, you might want to adjust your streaming devices to lower resolutions. For Standard TV streaming (SD), aim for 720p, which is great if you want to free up bandwidth for multiple devices. For High Definition TV streaming (HDTV), set it to 1080p. If you have several devices connected, this could cause your streaming to get a bit choppy.
